Why are there ugly people in this world?

So this is my first post on my blog. And boy, did i pic a really heavy topic to start on.

A friend of mine sent me an email today with two blogspot links. The links led to 2 blogs discussing about management issues within the Singapore Island Country Club.

Apparently, many of the members are very unhappy with the way the General Committee is running things at the club and their personal conduct.

They are quite interesting to read because you can detect the anger and frustration of some of the contributors to this blog...you get the sense that these guys are trying to fight for things to be made right in the club. unfortunately, they need to be exposed to more club members and heard.

I am not sure whether what they claim is true or not and quite frankly, if the issues dont affect me directly or in a big way, i'd rather not want to get involved. not because i dont care but from what i read about the members of the General Committee, they are vicious people. They will change club rules and bye-laws to suit their needs, which include covering up for their actions. Again, i wont comment whether they were correct actions or not but i dont need a general committee to make things difficult for me and my mates at the club.

which brings me to the point of this post, so after reading the blogs on SICC, i really wondered why are people sooo ugly who seem to want to get ahead at other people's expense.

the nice people always somehow get left behind but i think such people, and i have met some of these guys, they look at life very magnanimously...they do recognise the existence of these ugly people but they choose not to bother about them, choose not to retaliate, choose to feel that if they get left behind slightly then so be it but they have clear consciences that they have inherently been a good person...which provides them with happiness and solace that professional success or amassing of more wealth can never do...

So i guess in this world, while we watch movies about good vs bad, police vs criminals, we too have such characters running around in our daily lives. its whether we choose whether we want to be a good guy or a baddie. i choose to be a good guy...now what i choose and how i see myself is personal and unique to me...what other people see of me may be very different. so how can we gauge whether we are delivering on the choice we made, ie how will we know whether we are performing like how good guys or bad guys are supposed to do? Friends. they need to be able to tell you truthfully whenever you are behaving well or whenever youre acting like a real dickhead...

i have met lotsa dickheads in the office who are sooo inherently malicious, its not even funny. i swear some of these people could well be capable of eating their young...

some of these people whom i just cant help but highlight include this lady from our credit cards team...we have just completed our budget allocation...she was unhappy with her allocated budget so much so that she has been whining nonstop about how the budget has been allocated, how its marketing who are not fairly apportioning out the budget allocation etc...so, shes been trying to lobby for more budget and at the same time discredit marketing. but the truth of the matter is that on 2 occasions in december, ball park figures of what each business unit would need to pay for marketing/ advertising services was flashed up on the screen. at no time did she make any comment, negative or otherwise about the figures...now when the numbers are baked it, shes like a tornado of complaints and she incessantly whines like a spoilt brat...why are there such people in this world. so far, the business unit heads have not raised any unhappiness with their budgets...so why does this lady do this? why does she want to discredit other people? to make her case easier to explain at the end of this year when she doesnt hit her targets?

why? why cant people just work as a team for the greater good of everyone? why cant people work in harmony? why cant people work like a real team? why cant people live and let live?

because of 3 things i think. they are greed, jealousy, anger...people want to get ahead, want the good life, want more money, want...want...want...and how will they be able to satiate their wants...through earning more money...and how to earn more money? move up the corporate ladder...how to move up the corporate ladder? work hard, work smart and take out anyone who stands in your way...this is how i see why people can really be very ugly at work...just so that they get ahead at other people's expense...pretty sad.

i hope i dont become like that...cause i just wanna be a good guy and lead a good life and meet and have good friends around me.

not sure when i will be inspired again to post an entry here....but till then...keep observing, keep thinking...
